The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh,is a complex of buildings which serves as the royal residence of the king of Cambodia. The Kings of Cambodia have occupied it since it was built in 1860s, with a period of absence when the country came into turmoil during and after the reign of the Khmer Rouge. It was originally located in Oudong which was then the Capital, but moved in the mid-19th century, when Phnom Penh became the Capitol.
We were not allowed to go inside or take pictures inside the Royal Palace but these are some pictures of the majestic buildings and the beautiful grounds.
This gate and the murals below were designed and painted by Master He Samon, the man who gave us private drawing lessons at our hotel. He was the professor of Yary Livan, when Yary was a young art student at the University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh before the Pol Pot Era began. Yary was one of our traveling companions from Lowell who contacted his former professor when we got to Cambodia.I felt so priveledged to be able to meet him and be a student of his , if only for a few short hours.
These are the colors of the week that were worn starting with Sunday.
