ROYAL UNIVERSITY OF FINE ARTS

The Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA) is an art university in Phnom Penh. Its origins date to the establishment of the École des arts cambodgiens in Phnom Penh in 1918. The school was closed in 1975 after the Khmer Rouge stepped in. It was re-opened in 1980 and has been operating ever since.  It is an art college that is available to the poor and underprivileged students who want to attend college tuition free. These students are amazingly talented and can receive a degree in Music, Visual, Architectural and Performing Arts.  Unfortunately, there is talk of it being moved out of the center of Phnom Penh and relocated to a rural area which would be very difficult for the students to be able to attend. Right now, it is right across the street from the National Museum  and easily accessible to the students, teachers and to the public. It would be a hardship to all and a disruption to the history of this school to have it moved to another location.  We are all keeping our fingers crossed that this does not happen.
